Ten defender Hibs could target on free transfers this summer – including former Aberdeen and Motherwell stars

This season has been lackluster for the Hibs, as Nicky Montgomery’s team has been unable to place in the top six.
Even though Saturday’s 2-1 away loss to bottom-of-the-table Ross County proved to be another frustrating day, Hibs will be hoping to get over it as they approach the season’s last three games. That starts with a home double header against Motherwell and Aberdeen, and the final game of the season is a trip to Livingston in two weeks.
After that game and the season of transition concludes, Montgomery will concentrate on getting ready for his first full season at Easter Road by strengthening his team during the summer.
Undoubtedly, Montgomery will try to expand his options at the back given that Hibs’ attempts to improve this season have been hampered by defensive concerns. This may entail exploring the free transfer market, where a number of intriguing signings may grab his eye.

2. Jason Kerr – Wigan Athletic
If Wigan can’t keep a hold of the former St Johnstone man then no doubt a list of clubs, likely a few in Scotland included, will be queuing up for his signature.

3. Joe Shaughnessy – Dundee
Vastly experienced in the Scottish top flight with Aberdeen, St Johnstone, St Mirren and now Dundee.

4. Michael Hector – Charlton Athletic
Remains popular with Aberdeen fans a full 10 years after his loan spell in Scotland but the former Chelsea man is hugely experienced and still only 31.

5. Sean Raggett – Portsmouth

6. Charles Dunne – St Mirren
Has been a regular in the Scottish top flight with Motherwell and St Mirren for almost a decade now and is still only 31.

7. Yuta Nakayama – Huddersfield Town

8. Di’Shon Bernard – Sheffield Wednesday
The former Man Utd man counts Hull City and Portsmouth amongst his former clubs but could test his ability north of the border if given the option this summer.

9. Kyle McFadzean – Blackburn Rovers
Hugely experienced, the 37-year old has made over 600 appearances in the EFL in his career with clubs like Coventry and MK Dons.

10. Cameron Burgess – Ipswich Town
Born in Aberdeen, a Scotland youth international who now represents Australia – sound familiar Hibs fans?
