Injury and illness hit Hibs preparations for Dons clash

Two of Hibs’ starting central defenders are dealing with illness and injuries in advance of this weekend’s visit from Aberdeen. However, they should benefit from first-choice keeper David Marshall’s return for the last three games of a poor Scottish Premiership campaign.

Will Fish is still recovering from the back injury that prevented him from playing in Ross County’s defeat. Rocky Bushiri, a fellow center-half, went back to training yesterday after being absent for a few days due to illness.

In the fire For Saturday’s Easter Road match, Hibs manager Nick Montgomery may choose to start both players, as the team attempts to make up for last weekend’s devastating late collapse in Dingwall. However, it appears that Paul Hanlon, the club captain, who is scheduled to retire at the conclusion of the season, might be called upon once again.

Monty disclosed that Will Fish was still having trouble with his back problem. “That’s a little worse than we anticipated—just heading the ball, another innocent one. He feels a twinge in his back, but back pain never goes away till it settles.

“It’s just the same with Jake, he’s in and out,” the manager said, adding that Lewis Miller is still having trouble with a hamstring strain. The manager also thinks the medical team at Hibs is right to give long-term injury victim Jake Doyle-Hayes time to ease himself back into a full training program. We are hopeful that by the very near end of the season, we will be able to mark him off as fully fit and include him back into the preseason lineup.
