‘Daylight robbery’ – Kris Boyd delivers brutal verdict over Celtic’s win at Hibs

Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic secured a late victory at Easter Road with Adam Idah converting a penalty in added time, ultimately clinching all three points against Nick Montgomery’s Hibernian side. Despite initially taking the lead with Idah’s first penalty, Celtic faced a challenge from Dylan Levitt’s equalizer early in the game.

The dramatic late winner sparked jubilant scenes among the away supporters, allowing Celtic to extend their lead over Rangers at the top of the Premiership, albeit having played a game more. However, former player Kris Boyd did not mince words in his assessment of Celtic’s performance, describing it as below the standards they have set in recent years and suggesting that they had “got away with one.”

Boyd acknowledged the credit due to Idah for his composure in converting two crucial penalties but emphasized that Celtic’s overall performance did not match their usual level. He characterized the victory as “daylight robbery,” highlighting Celtic’s good fortune in securing the win despite their subpar performance.

Regarding the second penalty decision, where Joe Newell collided with Kyogo Furuhashi, former Celtic manager Neil Lennon and pundits James McFadden and Boyd agreed that the referee’s decision was justified. Lennon pointed out Newell’s late challenge on Kyogo, acknowledging that while it may have been unintentional, it was still a foul in the box deserving of a penalty.

Overall, while Celtic managed to secure a vital victory, the performance raised concerns about their consistency and ability to maintain their high standards, as noted by Boyd and others in the post-match analysis.
