QPR deal Blackburn Rovers fatal transfer blow
In their alleged pursuit of QPR defender Jimmy Dunne, Blackburn Rovers have suffered a fatal blow.
On Tuesday, the London club said that the well-liked 26-year-old will remain at Loftus Road for the summer. Originally scheduled to see his contract expire at the conclusion of the season, Dunne has grown to be an indispensable part of Marti Cifuentes’ Championship survival machine.
Inspiring him to play right-back in the latter months of the season, the former Burnley player made 29 league games this season. Regarding his extension, he said to QPR, “I’m thrilled to be staying at QPR. I adore this club and everything it stands for, as everyone knows.
“I am thrilled about the future but I am also looking forward to the break. This has been a grueling season, a true roller-coaster.”
The contract extension coincides with Blackburn Rovers’ purported interest in bringing Dunne to Ewood Park this summer on a free transfer. According to a January Football Insider story, Dunne was being considered by Rovers as a potential replacement for James Hill.
Dunne, nevertheless, will begin a fourth season at QPR as the Rs aim to get better in the 2024–2025 season. After leaving Burnley in 2021, the former Manchester United youth product joined the team for an unknown sum.
Dunne’s spectacular volley against Birmingham City, which secured a crucial three points for his team, earned him the Goal of the Season accolade at QPR this season. Christian Nourry, CEO of QPR, responded to the contract extension by saying, “It is an absolute pleasure to announce that the ‘Jimmy Dunne, QPR’ tale continues.”
