QPR slap £7m price tag on ‘quality’ star amid Wolves, Stoke City and Celtic transfer interest
Jake Clarke-Salter, the center-back for QPR, is reportedly the target of Stoke City and Celtic’s transfer interest ahead of the summer.
Considering the 26-year-old’s stellar season at Loftus Road, it should come as no surprise that other teams are showing interest in the defender. This season, Clarke-Salter made 33 games in the Championship and was an essential part of Marti Cifuentes’ team that fought relegation.
The towering center-back was the subject of transfer rumors from Scotland, with Celtic and Stoke City reportedly interested in making a deal. John Percy, a correspondent at The Daily Telegraph, says that.
The journalist posted on X: “Jake Clarke-Salter, defender for QPR, is a major summer target in Stoke City transfer news.” Price is probably between £5-7 million, and other teams, including Premier League teams, might be interested. This summer, Stoke plans to bolster a number of areas.”
This season, the Potters ended one spot ahead of QPR on goal differential and even with the Rs in terms of points. Percy’s report seemed to reveal the defender’s price tag in addition to additional Premier League interest.
Wolves are reportedly “purchasing” Clarke-Salter as well because they think he has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League, according to BirminghamWorld. The defender only played in one Premier League game for Chelsea in 2016, a 16-minute cameo.
After failing to make an impression on the starting lineup at Stamford Bridge, Clarke-Salter left the Blues to join QPR in 2022. Since then, he has made 49 appearances for the team. He has a deal with Loftus Road through the summer of 2019.
“I knew Jake previously from his time [on loan] at Birmingham because Xavi Calm, my assistant, was working at Birmingham for a lot of his games,” Cifuentes stated in December, expressing his fondness for the defender.
“The sort of performance he has had over the last few games is not surprising; we knew of his quality.” However, we also have to acknowledge that he came from a time when he was recovering from an injury when I first arrived.
However, our excellent medical staff and physiotherapists have all helped to paint a clear picture for me of the chances and risks that each player faces during weeks like this.
All of it fits into the puzzle because maintaining the team’s spirit is important, and I coach by always giving them the chance to perform and participate in games. However, he is without a doubt one of our most important players, and we want him to stay healthy and play in as many games as possible.
