Exciting £15m developments on the horizon at Birmingham City
“There will be two brand-new, free fan parks when you return to St. Andrew’s at Knighthead Park the following season. One will be a pop-up fan park called the Kop. We now have our second, permanent fan park, which is located in the Main Stand parking lot. On match days, this fan park will welcome over a thousand visitors.
Families are welcome, and we offer teqball, five-a-side, and a kids’ play area. We have a stage where we will be hosting local bands, performances, and comedians, as well as an adults-only section with food and bars.
“There will be a TV studio and a hospitality area. We’ll have a space on match days, and if all goes according to plan and I can finish this before the end of the Euros, you’ll have a place to go watch England win the tournament and advance through to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final.”
Smith also discussed the efforts made to provide Gary Rowett and his players with two training pitches at the EPIC that they may use alternately. The head of infrastructure told the Mail, “There was just one pitch and it was a rugby pitch, not a football ground, in the summer when we transferred the first team across to EPIC.”
It had taken a lot of beatings through studs and scrums and everything else because they are distinct constructions. Our amazing grounds crew there was able to prepare it for football in the summer.
However, because this pitch is not built like a football stadium, we realized that using it throughout the winter would present difficulties.
“The idea was to begin cultivating a pitch in a northern English turf farm. We harvested the pitch as winter approached and built a new pitch atop EPIC’s artificial surface.
“It’s really ambitious to harvest a pitch in the winter, move it across the nation, and build it on top of a synthetic pitch—if any of you have ever attempted to grow grass in your yards during the winter. The first team has access to two pitches today for training. This, in my opinion, is a tremendous accomplishment and a clear example of Birmingham’s intended operations.”
Birmingham City news puts club in good position, regardless of relegation
Wagner has been clear that, even if the club were to be relegated to League One, the plans for the new Sports Quarter wouldn’t be delayed. Their chances of staying up are looking much better now than they did when the news was first announced less than two weeks ago.
The Blues are now outside of the relegation zone, and they have two crucial matches over the next eight days against Rotherham United (24th in the Championship) and Huddersfield Town (22nd).
Championship Table (As it stands April 19th) | ||||
Team | P | GD | Pts | |
17 | Blackburn Rovers | 43 | -14 | 49 |
18 | Plymouth Argyle | 43 | -8 | 48 |
19 | QPR | 43 | -17 | 47 |
20 | Stoke City | 43 | -19 | 47 |
21 | Birmingham City | 43 | -16 | 45 |
22 | Huddersfield Town | 43 | -23 | 44 |
23 | Sheffield Wednesday | 43 | -31 | 44 |
24 | Rotherham United (R) | 43 | -53 | 23 |
If Birmingham prevails over the Terriers and Huddersfield loses to Swansea City this weekend, they should be safe. Otherwise, they will probably lose to the Millers.
With all of its off-field investments, the team is well-positioned even in the event of relegation. Yes, that won’t help them stay up right now, but regardless of whichever division they play in, it will greatly improve the club’s future.
The club will benefit financially from these improved facilities, particularly the new fanzones, and will also be able to draw in better players because to the stadium and EPIC upgrades.
