According to Football Insider, sources have revealed that Sunderland is planning a fresh summer transfer for Paik Seung-ho of Birmingham City.

Seung-ho, 27, left K-League team Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors after three years to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with St Andrew’s.

Seung-ho chose to move to Birmingham City, despite the Black Cats reportedly pursuing his signature last winter and having discussions with him about a possible trade.

Football Insider has learned from reliable sources, though, that Sunderland is still eager to capture the midfield player and is preparing a new bid.

Sunderland rekindle their interest in Paik Seung-ho, a Birmingham star

Since joining the Blues, he has been a constant, starting 13 of the 16 Championship games in which he has been eligible, including all nine of their most recent meetings.

The defensive midfielder played two games for Barcelona’s B squad and is a graduate of the renowned La Masia academy.

He has spent stints in Europe with teams like Girona, Darmstadt, and Peralada after failing to make an impression on the senior squad of the La Liga powerhouses.

He has made 15 senior appearances for South Korea, including the sole goal in their 4-1 loss to Brazil in the 2022 World Cup quarterfinals.

Though he has played as an offensive and central midfielder throughout his career, Seung-ho has spent much of this season playing as a defensive midfielder for Birmingham.

Sunderland’s 1-0 loss at Millwall on Saturday afternoon (20 April) has dropped them to 13th place in the Championship standings.

Their penultimate game of the season is this Saturday afternoon (April 27) against Watford, who are currently in 15th place.
