Former Cowboys player says team culture is ‘zoo’

Former tight end Dalton Schultz of the Dallas Cowboys, who is currently with the Houston Texans, was candid about the culture and environment that separates the two teams.

During his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Schultz discussed the distinctions between the clubhouses of the Texans and Cowboys.

“Just football is the priority, you understand?” About playing in Houston, Schultz stated. “A lot of people are surprised by what I’m going to share about my experiences visiting the Cowboys practice facility and game day, where I describe some of the relationships and everyday stuff that you witness. “Holy crap,” they exclaim. That takes place at a practice facility, really? You arrive in a location like this and assume everything is normal.

Shultz provided an example of what the Dallas locker room would have looked like on some days.

“Dude, it’s like a real zoo,” Schultz remarked. “While they’re power cleaning or doing whatever, there are individuals rapping on the window to grab people’s attention. It is distinct. There’s nothing wrong with that because it’s their established brand, what [owner] Jerry Jones enjoys, and how they do business. You never know how many eyes there are in the locker room or how much the very act of being in the building can distract you until you walk someplace else and realize, “Holy cow, there’s none of that.”

There have been previous inquiries over the Cowboys culture. Since the team lost to the Green Bay Packers in the first round of the playoffs despite having home-field advantage, there has been intense scrutiny surrounding the team.

A lot of people think that the franchise has changed since Jimmy Johnson left in the 1990s. Johnson was a harsh enforcer of rules who had a reputation for benching players for the smallest infraction and abandoning well-liked players on the airport tarmac if they failed to make the scheduled departure.

Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones had a falling out because Johnson was taking the majority of the credit for creating the Cowboys dynasty in the 1990s, which infuriated Jones.

Mike McCarthy, who some believe is a puppet for Jones and never really makes decisions, has been the subject of more discussions over this team’s lack of discipline.

The criticism of McCarthy and Jones grows stronger every year the Cowboys fail to advance past the first round of the playoffs, particularly if people keep bringing up how much of a “zoo” things are going on behind closed doors.
