Returning to Dallas, Ezekiel Elliott is earning a significant fraction of what he did during his prior tenure with the Cowboys.

According to Star-Telegram’s Clarence Hill, Elliott has agreed to a $3 million one-year contract that includes a $2 million guarantee.

Elliott, who played for the Cowboys for seven seasons from 2016 to 2022, earned $70 million, so that’s a significant drop in pay. Elliott, whether it be from the Cowboys or another team, was not going to receive a large salary, nevertheless, that is the reality of the NFL running back market.

With the Cowboys in 2016 and 2018, Elliott was the league leader in rushing yards twice. However, since then, his output has decreased, and he recently finished with the Patriots in which he gained a career-low 642 rushing yards and an average of 3.5 yards per carry.

Elliott will likely become an official signee after his physical with the Cowboys this morning.
