Tanah Boyd’s wrist dislocation will keep him out of action for at least the next six weeks, the Gold Coast Titans have revealed.

Boyd was pulled off the field after just eight minutes of play in a close Round 9 loss to the Melbourne Storm. Boyd has played halfback for the Gold Coast this season in a halves combination with Kieran Foran.

After further investigation, scans showed that the former Queensland junior State of Origin player had dislocated his wrist. As a result of the injury, he will miss the next month and a half of action.

He will miss five games until the conclusion of Round 15 due to a six-week absence, beginning with this week’s home game against the North Queensland Cowboys, where Chris Randall has unexpectedly replaced him for the Gold Coast.

The Titans lack options in the second half, so their only other options are to add Thomas Weaver or move Kieran Foran to the number seven jumper, with Jayden Campbell or AJ Brimson playing at five-eighth.

Boyd will also likely miss games against the Brisbane Broncos (away), South Sydney Rabbitohs (home), Wests Tigers (away), and Newcastle Knights (magic round). He will also likely miss a bye in Round 13 and his first opportunity to play again will be at home against the New Zealand Warriors in Round 16.

A young player named Ben Liyou will take an 11-day concussion break after passing a head injury assessment during the Ipswich Jets’ QLD Cup victory over the Northern Pride on Sunday afternoon. This is the only other injury the Gold Coast sustained during the weekend.
