Watford FC supporters have experienced yet another disappointing season as the Hornets failed to make a credible promotion challenge and instead spent a portion of the campaign staring down the barrel of relegation.

Nevertheless, now that the season has concluded, supporters may reflect and evaluate the entire effort.

The team’s most disappointing player this season, a summer acquisition by Valerien Ismael, is what FLW fan pundit Justin Beattie has to say about the season’s highlights.

A fan pundit for Watford FC is critical of Jamal Lewis’s performances.

Although the Watford team as a whole has been incredibly disappointing this season, Justin believes that left-back Jamal Lewis deserves special attention.

In an interview with FLW, Justin discussed his feelings regarding Lewis’ loan stint at Vicarage Road. He said, “We were excited to have a Premier League player playing for us in the Championship, and we were expecting big things from him when it was announced we had bought him in. However, he has been one of the worst loan signings Watford has ever had. He didn’t get forward enough, he didn’t cross the ball enough, and he didn’t particularly look at all interested. I’ll be glad to see him go back.”

The Hornets star has been linked with several clubs after showing real talent for the Hornets once again this season.

The mid-season return of Emmanuel Dennis was also singled out too as being a very underwhelming deal overall, but a little more leeway was given to the Nigerian in comparison to Lewis.

“To be honest, Dennis’ comeback wasn’t all that great,” Justin continued.

“He arrived with great excitement, but even though our social media team portrayed him as a messiah on a mission, he didn’t do much.

“However, Lewis is my all-time favorite player if I had to choose just one.”

Numbers from Jamal Lewis’s dismal Watford FC season

Lewis came to the Hornets with the intention of reviving his career at Newcastle United, which had grown stale. The Northern Ireland international has only made 36 appearances in three seasons since joining the Magpies in 2020.

But even though Justin has played in most of the Hornets’ games this season—he has appeared 36 times in a Watford shirt between 2023 and 2024—the manager of Newcastle, Eddie Howe, will not be pleased with Justin’s apparent lack of desire when he evaluates Lewis’s future at Newcastle this summer.

Looking at his season-long data does not reveal much more about him; it appears that the talented player who was once at Norwich has gone away.

Jamal Lewis’ Championship Stats 2023-24
Appearances 36
Average Minutes Per Game 77
Clean Sheets 3
Interceptions Per Game 0.5
Tackles Made Per Game 2.0
Touches Per Game 55.9
Assists 2
Key Passes Per Game 0.9
Successful Dribbles Per Game 0.5
Total Duels Won Per Game 2.9

Lewis may not have much time left in the North East, according to The Mirror, and he will probably be traded along with many other squad members at St James’ Park in the next transfer window. It is unfortunate to watch a player who was once regarded as a bright prospect fade into slight mediocrity when such promise was once demonstrated in the same division he has just performed poorly in.

It is unclear what Lewis will do next, but it doesn’t appear like he will be moving to Vicarage Road if he signs with a Championship team this summer.
