The Baltimore Ravens have made an intriguing move to strengthen their defense

The Baltimore Ravens are riding a wave of success after their Week 6 victory against the Washington Commanders. However, they understand there’s always room for improvement.

That’s precisely why Baltimore signed defensive end Yannick Ngakoue to their active roster, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Ngakoue was previously on the Ravens’ practice squad.

He’s already played in two games for the team in 2024, with a tackle, two quarterback hits, and a sack to his name. On top of that, Ngakoue has secured a respectable 69.6 grade from Pro Football Focus, considering his playing time.By signing Yannick Ngakoue to the active roster, the Ravens accomplish two key objectives. First, Ngakoue brings valuable experience to bolster Baltimore’s front line. Second, they prevent any other team in the league from snatching him off the practice squad, securing his presence for the foreseeable future.

Despite the spotlight often shining on Lamar Jackson and the offense, Baltimore’s defense sits in the middle of the league, ranking 16th overall by allowing 334.7 yards per game. They’ve dominated against the run, leading the league by conceding just 59 yards per game. However, their pass defense has been less impressive, ranking 31st and allowing 275.7 yards per game. Balancing these areas will be key for the Ravens moving forward.

Yannick Ngakoue won’t be taking on the quarterback role, but his ability to apply pressure from the line could definitely relieve some of the pressure on Baltimore’s secondary. The Ravens evidently appreciate his potential and believe Ngakoue can make a significant impact for the rest of the season.

This isn’t the first collaboration between Baltimore and Ngakoue; he played for the Ravens back in 2020 when the team reached the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Now, as the Ravens enter Week 7 with a 4-2 record, they have their sights set on going further. Ngakoue is back, full-time, to help Baltimore achieve their ambitious goals.
