Report: Crystal Palace could be snubbed by £20k-a-week “absolutely brilliant” target as he closes on new contract

Crystal Palace have had a speedy start to the 2024 summer transfer window, but could now be snubbed by one target.

Oliver Glasner has big and ambitious plans at Selhurst Park, and this summer was always going to be pivotal in the club reaching those levels.

Lots of recruitment was desired and that seems to be what we’re getting with Chadi Riad already confirmed as the club’s first signing and Daichi Kamada expected to follow him closely.

These two deals, while exciting, aren’t where the club will stop and several other players are currently being linked with Crystal Palace.

However, despite all the emerging positive stories, one player could now snub the Eagles.

Ben Johnson could snub Crystal Palace

While Selhurst Park is a positive place to be right now, and it appears that many players will be desiring a move this summer, Ben Johnson may end up snubbing a move.

According to GiveMeSport and journalist Dean Jones, West Ham could be set to retain the services of the £20,000-a-week full-back.

In the report, Jones explains that a move to Palace looked very likely at one point, but now it seems he is set to sign a new contract with the Hammers.

The “absolutely brilliant” wingback had rejected multiple contracts from his boyhood club but now appears as if he’ll finally wrap up his future.

The versatile defender would’ve been brought to Palace to provide support for both Daniel Munoz and Tyrick Mitchell, but now the club will have to look elsewhere.

Crystal Palace have options at wing-back this summer

Depth at wingback is a concern for Crystal Palace this summer with really just one option for both left and right, which could leave the team in a tricky spot if injuries arise.

But even if the club miss out on Johnson, several options have been linked over the past few weeks.

Juan Miranda of Real Betis has been linked in recent weeks, although there is significant interest which could mean he views himself above a rotational player.

Luton Town’s Alfie Doughty is thought to be another option at wing-back following their relegation to the Championship.

Archie Brown is a third option, with recent links drawing him to South London from Gent.

Another potential addition could be Ryan Sessegnon who will be free this summer and could offer something different to Mitchell at left wingback.
