Mark Robins’ future and Coventry City transfer ‘concern’ addressed

Football supporters are excited and full of expectation this time of year as their team gets ready for what they hope will be a very busy and productive transfer window.

When the Coventry City supporters faced this particular hump in the road to promotion to the Premier League a year ago, they were more filled with fear and resignation about the loss of their two best players and wondered how the recruitment department would get past that specific roadblock. After a full year, the Sky Blues have demonstrated that life goes on beyond Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer, as they rebuild their team around new, more robust overall foundations for success.

And so, we move on to another summer of strengthening. Most have accepted that Callum O’Hare will soon leave the team, and the only real unresolved player concern is whether Ben Sheaf will be acquired by a team higher up the standings. Early rumors had him linked to Fulham and recently promoted Ipswich Town, adding to the ongoing connections to a Luton team that has now been confirmed to be returning to the second division with aspirations of going straight back up.

Apart from that, there might be some gossip about Ellis Simms and Haji Wright because they both finished their first season at the CBS Arena just one goal short of 20, but since they both have long-term contracts and are only beginning their development with the team, it would be difficult to imagine either of them leaving at this specific time.

The one irksome piece of paper/web rumors that persists, though, is about interest in Mark Robins. This is mainly because there are a lot of managerial openings now that teams like Hull and Norwich have let go of David Wagner and Liam Rosenior, respectively, and there is growing conjecture about Vincent Kompany’s future at newly relegated Burnley due to rumors that Brighton is interested in the Belgian.

There was never anything to the Hull connection that surfaced a week or so ago, and Tigers owner Acun Ilicali hopes to have his new manager in place by the end of the week following two weeks of negotiations with German Tim Walter. Putting all of that aside, a transfer to East Yorkshire wouldn’t be rational for a tiny team like this one. Although Hull has high expectations and a respectable home gate average of little under 22,000 during the previous season, why would Robins abandon up on the Sky Blues project he’s well along with now?

Under Sisu, he was merely treading water in the Championship, and his ongoing, restricted budget prevented him from making significant progress unless he struck it lucky. However, under Doug King, who is incredibly ambitious, there is a genuine sense of excitement and expectation that this is a club on the rise.

Since Robins was a player for the club, he is frequently associated with the position whenever it becomes available. However, based on the most recent bookmaker odds, Robins is well down the list, and it is believed that the Canaries are once more searching outside of the country for their next manager.

Last but not least, although the Burnley connection was peculiar, some people gave it a moment’s credibility since it was proposed by 95k X followers and Belgian sports writer Sacha Tavolieri. The one major aspect, though, that disappointed him was the announcement that Ashley Cole would be working with him as an assistant coach. If Sacha had completed his homework, he would be well aware of the Adi Viveash factor.

Well, but in a last-ditch effort to make it all fit, I hear the skeptics cry, “Adi’s been linked with the vacancy at Plymouth.”In actuality, the outstanding coach at City personally informed me that he had no desire to manage.

While there are never enough answers in football, Sky Blues supporters can feel secure in their manager’s future for the time being. Over the past seven years, he has made it clear time and time again that he loves the club and wants to see it succeed. With each passing season, that quest and goal continue and move closer to realization. In addition, he has acknowledged that he is “enthusiastic” about bolstering the team for the summer, so there is much more to be optimistic about in the upcoming months than to be concerned about.
