HORRIBLE NEWS: Celtic star cut off his contract Which Was To be….

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says he was “happy” for defender Gustaf Lagerbielke to leave the club in January, only for Cameron Carter-Vickers’ injury to scupper any potential move.

The Swedish defender was reportedly signed for £3m in the summer, but has made just six league appearances, and has only featured once in the league since September.

“We had interest on Gustaf for a few weeks and I was happy for him to go, but only when everything in house was taken care of,” Rodgers said.

“Purely because of the history of our centre-halves in the first half of the season. Cam, Maik [Nawrocki], and Stephen Welsh have been injured for significant periods.

“The last thing I wanted to do is send a guy out until I was sure those guys could be fit. Cam picks up his injury and at that point I can’t let him go out. I have to look after the squad for the second part of the season.

“It’s tough on Gustaf because he wants to play but I have to look after the squad.”
