A former player from West Bromwich Albion’s Academy expressed gratitude for surviving a stabbing incident outside the Bullring shopping centre. Mackenzie Lamb, who moved to Peterborough United in 2022 after his time with West Bromwich Albion, confirmed he was one of three men injured during the knife attack on June 16 in the city centre.

The assault occurred near the Five Guys restaurant at Bullring, shortly after an England football match, although West Midlands Police stated that football was not a factor in the incident. While authorities continue their investigation, Mackenzie Lamb, in a statement shared on social media on June 22, described the past days as frightening and emphasized the need for greater awareness about the dangers of knife violence.

Reflecting on the incident, Mackenzie expressed relief that his friends were able to quickly assist him, preventing more severe harm. He stressed the importance of taking knife crime seriously, noting that not everyone affected by such violence is fortunate enough to survive.

In July 2020, Mackenzie Lamb, then 17 years old, was pictured with his father Rob Lamb, signing his two-year scholarship at West Bromwich Albion. Following a recent knife attack outside Birmingham’s Bullring shopping centre, Mackenzie shared a heartfelt message on social media, urging people to recognize the seriousness of knife crime in society.

The post gained significant traction, amassing over half a million views on the platform X, accompanied by numerous well-wishes for his recovery. BirminghamLive reached out to West Midlands Police for updates on their investigation into the incident, which occurred late on June 16 outside the Five Guys restaurant at Bullring. One victim’s brother revealed to BirminghamLive that his sibling had been stabbed in the back, while two friends sustained injuries to their arm and face.

West Midlands Police responded to the incident promptly after reports of disorder, deploying CCTV resources and interviewing witnesses. They assured the public of increased patrols in the city centre to enhance safety and confirmed ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, emergency responders from West Midlands Ambulance Service treated three individuals at the scene, with one man transported to the hospital for treatment of potentially serious injuries.

The incident has prompted renewed discussions about community safety and the need for awareness and action against knife violence.
