Crystal Palace, Wolves and Rangers beaten to £11m transfer by Premier League rivals
Premier League rivals West Ham are expected to beat Crystal Palace and Wolves to the signing of Flamenense forward Jhon Arias. The player was reportedly attracting interest from Scottish powerhouse Rangers as well.
After announcing this week that they had signed Brazilian teenager Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras for £25.5 million, the Hammers are still looking aggressive in the summer transfer window. Technical director Tim Steidten appears to have approved yet another move while in Brazil arranging agreements for the Julen Lopetegui era.
West Ham has a £11 million deal for Arias approved, according to RTI Esporte, and the Brazilian team has agreed to allow the London club and the attacker to have private discussions. Nevertheless, given that the team has just failed to come to a contract agreement with Fabirico Bruno, supporters will exercise caution.
The news of West Ham and Fluminense’s success devastates both Wolves and the Eagles. Colombian publication AS had reported that Crystal Palace was interested in the player.
It was early this year that the South London team reportedly contacted the Brazilian club to inquire about a possible transfer. In a scenario if the team does lose Michael Olise and/or Eberechi Eze this summer, Oliver Glasner might have found the 13-cap Colombian international, who can play in any position across the front three.
Since joining Fluminense, Arias has amassed a solid 35 goals and 38 assists in 168 appearances. This season, he has seven goals and four assists.
West Ham and Fluminense’s agreement is anticipated to be finalized within the “next few days,” with the English team agreeing to pay the transfer cost plus £1.8 million in performance-related add-ons.
