Birmingham City ‘target’ released after falling out of favour at Championship club

The parent team of Andre Dozzell, who signed a loan deal with Birmingham City, has released him, which might lead to a free permanent transfer. The 25-year-old initially signed a six-month contract with Blues in January with the intention of moving permanently, but there have been a number of issues. The manager was a major factor in Dozzell’s initial recruitment to St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park, therefore his unannounced illness leave hasn’t helped his case. At Blues, Dozzell hasn’t been himself since Mowbray moved on. Mark Venus gradually removed the midfield player from the starting lineup, although Gary Rowett favored double pivoting with players like Jordan James, Paik Seung-ho, and Ivan Sunjic. Dozzell was a bit of a bust as he only made ten appearances for Blues while on loan. He did, however, get off to a good start, winning 1-0 against Blackburn Rovers under John Eustace. Birmingham’s desire to sign Dozzell permanently may rise as a result of the team’s relegation to League One, but Mowbray’s potential return will likely be the deciding factor. The 60-year-old head coach will undoubtedly want to get back together with his top target if he decides to return. However, in the event that Mowbray leaves permanently, it will be up to the next manager, who may have other ideas. As it stands, Dozzell will formally become unrestricted to entering contract negotiations with suitors on June 30th. With 98 appearances for QPR, the former Ipswich Town player scored twice. The Rs said in a club statement that they had no choice but to release him due to financial difficulties.Dozzell played just 637 minutes for Blues, across 10 matches.

“Andre played a significant role for the football club in the first half of the season, and we will be forever grateful for the contributions he made,” stated CEO Christian Nourry.

In January, a tough choice was taken that was also intended to provide Andre more starting football, taking into account the club’s budgetary constraints and other market priorities. We send him our warmest wishes for the future.
