Report: Celtic boss reveals talks with West Brom star as Watford set sights on former Aston Villa man
Since joining The Hawthorns, the 24-year-old has experienced great success and has one of the greatest goals to games ratios. In the ten games he has played for the Baggies thus far, he has six goals and one assist.
Johnston had seen minimal playing time prior to going to the West Midlands, having made only four starts throughout the first half of the season. Since then, he has been lighting up West Brom, scoring four goals in his last three games, sparking calls for the team to sign him permanently.

The 24-year-old’s contract at Celtic Park expires in the summer of 2026, but if West Brom wins promotion to the Premier League, they may have to pay a hefty transfer fee to secure him long-term.
“I spoke to him in the summer when he was seeking to go on loan and I said stay and get your training correct because you’ve not had a period of training regularly never mind playing games,” Rodgers stated in an interview with the Daily Record.
He was able to accomplish that, and after that, he made an appearance for us in a few games. After that, it was time to get him some playing time. He has performed admirably and demonstrated the talent that everyone is aware of. Hopefully he keeps going with it, and in the summer we can take another look at it.
In other news, Shaun Maloney is reportedly a candidate for the Watford manager position, according to Football Insider. After firing Valerien Ismael, the Hornets are looking for a new manager. Despite Tom Cleverley’s impressive start against Birmingham City, they may consider other options.
Maloney has been in charge of Wigan Athletic since January 2023 and holds the position as manager. Even with multiple point deductions, he was unable to stop them from going down, but he has stabilized the team.
The 41-year-old is most known for his two playing stints at Celtic, but he also played for a season at Aston Villa, West Brom’s West Midland rivals, before that. As a player, he also won the FA Cup with Wigan, defeating Manchester City.
Meanwhile, all of the tickets for Millwall’s away game have sold out. After tickets went on sale at the end of February, West Brom fans jumped at the chance to purchase them as Carlos Corberan’s team got closer to securing a play-off position. When West Brom plays Millwall at The Den on Good Friday (March 29, kickoff at 1.00 pm), 2,000 fans will travel to the city.
