Liel Abada of Celtic is set to sign a £10 million deal to join MLS team Charlotte FC, ending any chance that West Brom or Southampton had to sign the winger in the summer.

The Israeli international made his Glasgow giants debut in the summer of 2021, and his first two seasons at Parkhead were incredible.

In his debut season, he was named Scotland’s Young Player of the Year and Celtic won both the league cup and the championship. In his second season, they would win the treble, and under Ange Postecoglou, Abada would still be a key player.

The player’s season has been more difficult this year, though, as injuries have limited his effectiveness on the field and damaged his relationship with some supporters in the wake of the Israel-Palestine conflict.

As a result, it was proposed in January that Abada could move on since Southampton and West Brom were rumored to be interested in signing the forward for the Championship.

Liel Abada will pay £10 million to join Charlotte FC.

That did not transpire, though, and with the window closed, both clubs would have to bid for Abada again come summertime.

However, it appears he has made up his mind about what to do next, as Sky Sports News has disclosed that Abada has cleared a medical examination with Charlotte FC, and a deal is anticipated to be signed by the end of the week.

“After passing his medical, Ligel Abada is expected to finalize his transfer from Celtic to MLS team Charlotte FC in less than 48 hours.

“A £10 million deal was reached to send the Israel international to America. Dean Smith, the head coach of Charlotte FC, will supervise the winger, who was previously a manager at Aston Villa and Leicester.”

Liel Abada’s long-term prospects

Abada is a major addition to Charlotte FC as a designated player, and the fact that the team has spent almost £10 million on him indicates that they view him as a significant investment and that they should anticipate great things from him in the years to come.

Of course, at just 22 years old, there is still a chance that he might visit Europe again in the future, and the player might have that as a goal at some point.

Even though they both achieved their season-long goal of being promoted to the Premier League, it appears that Albion and Saints will not be able to sign Abada in the near future.

The summer schedule for Southampton and West Brom

In light of that, the recruitment departments of the two clubs involved will undoubtedly compile two lists of possible new hires prior to the transfer window.

In either case, the Saints’ summer will be crucial because they will either need to bolster their roster if they advance or balance it if they stay in the second division.
