Scottish Premiership: Six clubs call meeting amid SPFL dispute over governance

Six Scottish Premiership clubs, namely Aberdeen, Livingston, Motherwell, Rangers, St Johnstone, and St Mirren, have called for a meeting involving all 42 member clubs of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL). They have invited SPFL chairman Murdoch MacLennan and chief executive Neil Doncaster to attend this meeting.

This request comes in the wake of concerns raised by the six clubs regarding the governance of the SPFL. The league had previously responded to a statement from these clubs, citing “factual inaccuracies” and promising a meeting with all 12 top-flight clubs to discuss an independent governance review.

The review was initiated in July following a dispute involving Rangers and a sponsorship issue, which led to an apology from SPFL chairman Murdoch MacLennan. In January, the SPFL announced that a draft report showed compliance with significant elements of the UK Code of Corporate Governance.

However, the six clubs raised objections, stating that the SPFL’s statement did not reflect the full findings of the report and was issued without the approval or knowledge of league members. They believe it is essential for transparency and governance that the chairman and chief executive address these concerns directly with all member clubs.
