Indiana Pacers
Myles Turner’s priceless response to a local family’s decision to name their child after him.
Myles Turner, the longest-tenured player on the Indiana Pacers roster, has developed a strong following among the team’s fans. Having weathered constant trade rumors, Turner has earned a reputation as one of the most respected members of the Pacers. Throughout it all, he has remained loyal to the organization and consistently given his best on the court. Given this, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a local family chose to name their newborn child after him.
When Turner learned that the family had named their baby in his honor, his reaction was priceless.
“That’s dope, I’m honored, bro, for real, for real,” Turner said. “It’s so little, so precious. When I first got here, I think someone named a pig after me, but this is a much better upgrade. So, shout out to y’all, man.”
Turner discovered the news from a social media post, where he was tagged by the baby’s father. The post announced the birth and shared the baby’s name, also noting that both the mom and baby were doing well.
Before the 2022-23 season ended, the Pacers signed Turner to a contract extension, keeping him with the team through the end of this year. Turner is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason unless he and the Pacers can agree to a new deal before free agency begins. According to the NBA’s new CBA, teams are allowed to negotiate with their own free agents immediately after the NBA Finals.
Turner has spent his entire 10-year NBA career with the Pacers, who selected him as the 11th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. This season, he’s averaging 15.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game, shooting 48.9% from the field, 38.8% from three-point range, and 71.6% from the free-throw line.
