“You’re going to consume hummus,” analyst Bob Hunt passes away.
Bob Hunt, a renowned former cricket and football pundit from Gloucestershire, passed away.
Mr. Hunt, who turned 70 on April 25th, spent almost 30 years working for the BBC, where he covered Forest Green Rovers for BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
In 2020, he announced his retirement and gave his son Billy the reins as local radio commentator for BBC.
Known for his hilarious commentary, Mr. Hunt gained international recognition for his remarks, which included predicting that Forest Green Rovers would be eating hummus in the upcoming season after their promotion to League Two in 2017.
Mr. Hunt saw the historic victory of Gloucestershire Cricket Club over Surrey in the 2015 Royal London Cup at Lord’s, as well as their 2019 elevation from Division Two to Division One of the Championship.
“Farce and laughter”
Billy gave his father an homage by saying, “Dad had some fantastic times at BBC Radio Gloucestershire.” Everywhere he went, he seemed to find absurdity and amusement.
“He could easily accomplish the goal of making the listeners happy by focusing on it. Everyone who knew him will have many wonderful memories to reminisce about as they revisit them over the coming days.
“Everyone he worked with, both on and off the air, would comment on how laid back Dad made them and how much fun it would be to sit next to him. He was proud to be on the radio.
It was an honor to collaborate with him while offering commentary on a team that we both cherished.
“Dad would want people to smile at his legacy, not to be furious with someone,” he continued.
“We’re heartbroken to learn about the demise of iconic pundit Bob Hunt,” Forest Green Rovers wrote on Twitter.
“Bob had a distinct style that was full of energy and a sharp sense of humor.
“During this difficult time, our thoughts are with Bob’s family.”
