Wow: Birmingham now offered chance to bring in 4-2-3-1 manager with four promotions

It may be a major development if Birmingham City accepts the offer to replace Toby Mowbray with a 4-2-3-1 manager this summer.

Birmingham’s season to forget

With the Blues’ relegation from the Championship to League One, after spending 13 years in the English football second division, it has been a dismal season at St Andrews.

Even though Birmingham was lying sixth in the table and in the playoff spots at the time, John Eustace’s tenure as manager ended abruptly in October, even though things had seemed to be going well under his leadership earlier in the season.

Wayne Rooney replaced him, but the legendary player from England had a terrible run of luck as manager, losing nine of his fifteen games. But at the time, former Blues manager Steve Bruce offered his backing, stating: “He had what, three months in charge? It seems a little harsh to me, and I believe he needs a little more time than that.”

As Rooney’s replacement, Mowbray tragically had a short season due to health problems, and Gary Rowett was unable to retain Birmingham in the Championship at that point, as their destiny was known earlier this month.

Mowbray’s ability to return is still unknown, but in the event that he is unable to, it appears that a surprise appointment may take his place.

Birmingham might appoint a spectacular manager.

Bruce may return to Birmingham as manager for a second time, according to a recent report from Football Insider. The Englishman is “bent” on making a “stunning” comeback to St Andrews.

“Not yet ready to conclude his managing career and still has hopes of guiding a new squad, with the possible vacancy at his old club putting him on alert,” the newspaper claims of the 63-year-old. To go back up, the Blues “may resort to the veteran boss.”

If this appointment took place this summer, it would be historic, though supporters’ views would undoubtedly diverge. During his first season at St Andrews, the former Blues and Manchester United defender had some incredible success and ended a 16-year run out of the first division with a playoff triumph over Norwich.

He has overseen four promotions in his managerial career, therefore he has real experience in the circumstances the club is currently facing.

Steve Bruce’s managerial record Matches Points per game
West Brom 32 1.13
Newcastle United 97 1.15
Sheffield Wednesday 18 1.61
Aston Villa 102 1.60
Hull City 201 1.47
Sunderland 98 1.16
Wigan Athletic 69 1.25
Birmingham City 263 1.38
Crystal Palace 17 1.94
Wigan Athletic 12 1.42
Huddersfield Town 62 1.34
Sheffield United 50 1.54

Bruce is primarily a manager who enjoys using a 4-2-3-1 formation. While some fans may prefer a more forward-thinking young coach, Bruce is a strong candidate to lead the Blues back into the Championship on their first try because of his extensive knowledge of the team and his previously mentioned promotion record.
