What Kevin Nagle said on Andre Breitenreiter as Huddersfield Town boss considers future
Owner of Huddersfield Town Kevin Nagle has stated that he hopes Andre Breitenreiter stays with the team while he continues to think about his future.
Although the German took over as Town’s head coach in February for a two-and-a-half-year contract, he was unable to keep the Terriers out of the relegation zone.
After Breitenreiter took over, Town only managed to win two of their last 13 games, and they ended the season with six points within the bottom three.
The Terriers boss stated he wanted “time to contemplate” before determining whether to stay with the team in League One after the season’s last game at Ipswich Town. In the latter stages of the season, the German expressed some of his disapproval of the club’s culture, casting doubt on some players’ devotion and the squad’s cohesiveness.
Although he was unable to lead the Terriers to safety, Nagle has stated that Breitenreiter is the team’s “number one” pick to take the team into League One. However, the owner still has not heard back from his head coach, which he anticipates doing soon.
It would have been wonderful to hear from Andre by today, Wednesday. Sadly, he’s with his family processing his choices,” Nagle stated in his X end-of-season diary.
“Hopefully, tomorrow (Thursday) I will receive a response. We need to get things done. Time is of the essence because I would love for Andre to be involved in the development of what I believe would be something exceptional, what we’re starting.
“Andre is the best guy we have; I want him.” If you look around, I believe the majority of our supporters want him. We are also aware that there are further options available. Even though Andre is our top priority, they do exist, and we do have backup plans.”
