ARSENAL
West Ham player forecasts Arsenal’s chances of claiming the Premier League title ahead of final day showdown.
Michail Antonio has expressed his belief that Arsenal could clinch the Premier League title over Manchester City on the final day of the season, while emphasizing that the Gunners shouldn’t be labeled as “bottle jobs” if they fall short.
Following Tottenham Hotspur’s inability to take points from Manchester City on Tuesday night, Mikel Arteta’s team enters the last weekend of the season requiring a favor from West Ham United to secure Arsenal’s first Premier League title at the Emirates Stadium since 2004.
Despite City suffering only one defeat in their last 23 Premier League matches, against Aston Villa in December, the prospect of Arsenal claiming the title this weekend seems improbable.
Nevertheless, Antonio believes that as West Ham United still have objectives to pursue, they could pose a challenge at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City, who are on the verge of clinching a fourth consecutive Premier League title.
“I wouldn’t label Arsenal as ‘bottle jobs’ if they miss out on this title. If it comes down to the wire, I think Arsenal will emerge victorious,” Antonio remarked on the Footballer’s Football Podcast. “In the final match of the season, we [West Ham] also have goals to achieve; we’re aiming for European qualification, facing Man City away.”
However, despite just one victory in their last four matches, West Ham will be unable to secure European qualification regardless of the outcome at the Etihad this weekend. Nonetheless, there will be motivation to conclude David Moyes’ tenure on a positive note following the announcement earlier this month that the manager would be leaving the club at the season’s end.
