U’s boss gives early insight into retained list and transfer plans
With regard to Oxford United’s retained list and summer transfer ambitions, DES Buckingham has given us a head start on what will likely happen next.
The U’s are getting ready for life in the Sky Bet Championship after defeating Bolton Wanderers in the League One play-off final.
This week is expected to see the announcement of United’s retained list. When questioned about it during yesterday’s open-top bus parade, head coach Buckingham stated, “We have to look after our own to start with.” We will make sure that the decisions we make about players are the appropriate ones.
“After that, we’ll examine the requirements for the Championship. We have players in this building who can play the way we want to play.
“It’s pleasing enough for me, but we need to improve our group now to ensure that we can play our Oxford style in the Championship and that we are sustainable.”
“That job started before the final,” he continued. We continuously prepare scenarios and what-if scenarios, and we do this in the background.
We’ve established a timeline for the things we hope to accomplish. We now have some excellent, strong foundations in place that will enable us to accomplish as much as possible within the necessary timeframes to reach our goals.
