“Torn on this” – Krystian Bielik verdict given amid uncertain Birmingham City future

Many players will probably leave St Andrew’s this summer after Birmingham City was relegated from the Championship.

Birmingham’s drop to the third division provides them with an ideal opportunity to restructure their team and add some young, motivated players who can establish themselves as starters in the starting lineup for many years.

Krystian Bielik is one of the guys they will still want to have around, though, as they have experience and talent.

Following their relegation to League One, the former manager has urged the Bluenoses to remain together.

Following Derby County’s relegation, the Polish international signed a contract with the team in the summer of 2022. Because of this, Birmingham would need to pay a respectable price if he were to depart this summer. His deal runs until 2026.

Given his Polish international status and his prior experience moving from a relegated team, Bielik is likely to desire to play football at a higher level than League One. It is unclear if he will remain at St Andrew’s this summer.

“He can absolutely play at a higher level” – Verdict on Krystian Bielik’s Birmingham City future

Our Birmingham City fan pundit, Mike, says that although Krystian Bielik’s future at Birmingham City is uncertain following his relegation, the midfielder is unquestionably talented enough to be playing at a higher level.

“I believe the Bielik one is kind of an interesting one,” he remarked. He moved from Derby to play for a Championship team, first in an attempt to earn a spot in Poland’s World Cup team.

There’s no assurance that playing Championship football will get him into the Poland squad, though, as he has dropped out of that squad while we’ve been playing.

Though it wouldn’t surprise me to see him go, I believe he will want to play at a higher level since he is capable of doing so. However, doing so won’t guarantee him a spot in Poland’s squad.

“I can see it going either way, but there may be an element that says he might as well keep playing where he’s comfortable and hopefully get us back into the Championship.”

If I were in his position, I would want to play at the best level, and that’s not League One. Maybe I’m being idealistic and hoping he remains.

“It depends on whether he’ll be pressing for a move and how receptive he would be to it, but he can definitely play at a higher level.”

Birmingham City will do well to keep hold of Krystian Bielik

Championship - Sheffield Wednesday v Birmingham City

Given that Krystian Bielik is an experienced Championship player with experience on the international stage, Birmingham City won’t be short of suitors this summer from the Championship and abroad.

The ex-Arsenal youngster has 11 caps for his country to his name, and given that Poland are a competitive international side that qualify for major tournaments, you’d have thought that playing in League One would do his international ambitions some harm.

Krystian Bielik’s 2023/24 Championship season – Fotmob
Appearances 36
Minutes played 2,989
Goals 0
Assists 0
Pass accuracy 84.7%
Long ball accuracy 70.6%
Dribble success 55.2%
Tackles won 54.7%
Duels won 51.2%
Yellow Cards 12

Then again, as our Birmingham City fan pundit pointed out, Poland hasn’t picked him recently, so moving away from St Andrew’s must help his chances of making the national team.

Birmingham won’t be willing to let him go for pennies on the dollar, and any club that wants to sign him will have to pay a substantial transfer fee. He still has two years left on his contract.

Investing that money in Birmingham’s team before League One may benefit both parties, and Bielik would have a new start in a different league the following season.
