Two football enthusiasts from Swindon have successfully completed their challenging trek from the County Ground in Swindon to their club’s first away match, covering a distance of 147 miles.Innes Miles and Jordan Brooks set off from Swindon Town Football Club on August 2 and reached Chesterfield’s SMH Group Stadium just in time for the 8pm kick-off, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Their journey aimed to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society and the National Autistic Society, causes they are passionate about. They have exceeded their initial fundraising goal of £5,000, with nearly £6,400 raised so far. Although they are now resting, they expressed their amazement at the support they received during an interview with the BBC. Jordan commented: “The support we received was absolutely incredible and something I will always remember. And, without sounding too sentimental, doing it with my best mate made it even more special.”

They joked about maintaining harmony throughout the journey, with Innes humorously noting that staying “about 20 meters behind [Jordan]” was key to their success. Innes is now using crutches after walking roughly 20 miles per day. He reflected on their experience, saying, “Maybe we should have trained a bit more and planned better, but we made it work.”

Initially, they didn’t know their destination until Swindon Town’s fixtures were released. Innes shared on their GoFundMe page: “One night, after a few drinks, Jordan and I decided to challenge ourselves. Jordan suggested walking from Swindon Town to our first away game of the season, and we eagerly awaited the fixture list to confirm it.”

They were sent off with a guard of honour from the County Ground on August 2, with the club wishing them well on their journey. A Swindon Town Football Club spokesperson said: “Innes and Jordan reached out to us, and we were eager to support their fundraising efforts, especially for the Alzheimer’s and National Autistic Society, which do important work across the UK.”
