Star Penn State WR from Central Pa. Enters the Transfer Portal
Tyler Johnson Enters Transfer Portal, Kaytron Allen Announces Return for 2025 Season
Penn State wide receiver Tyler Johnson has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Johnson, who did not record any statistics as a wide receiver during his three-year stint with the Nittany Lions, was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2022 out of Martinsville (Va.) Magna Vista. He was ranked the No. 15 prospect in Virginia, the No. 88 wide receiver nationally, and the No. 544 overall recruit, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which aggregates ratings from major recruiting platforms.
Johnson is one of two Penn State players to enter the portal on Monday, with defensive back Mehki Flowers also announcing his departure. Despite these changes, Penn State’s offensive backfield will remain intact for the 2025 season, as running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen both confirmed their returns.
Allen, who shared the news on social media shortly after Singleton’s announcement, posted, “Unfinished business,” along with a message explaining his decision.
“I’ve learned so much about football and life from being part of this elite organization led by Coach [James] Franklin. Working with Coach [Ja’Juan] Seider and the Lawnboyz has been an experience I’ll cherish forever,” Allen wrote. “Penn State has been extraordinary for me, which is why I’ve decided to return for the 2025 season.”
He also expressed gratitude for the support of his family, coaches, and teammates, stating, “Playing in front of these fans has been an unforgettable experience, and I’m looking forward to doing it again next season. Boom! I’m back!”
