Huddersfield Town’s relegation to League One has caused Andre Breitenreiter to leave the team.

Following their relegation from the Championship this season, Sheffield Wednesday’s rivals Huddersfield Town have split with manager Andre Breitenreiter. Following the dismissal of former Owls manager Darren Moore as the Terriers headed toward relegation, Breitenreiter joined the team in February.

Despite the German’s 13 games in command, which included two victories and five draws, the team ultimately failed to prevent its relegation to League One, with the Terriers’ fate confirmed on the last day of the season, which also happened to be Wednesday’s final day of play. Birmingham City and Rotherham United will also be playing for them in the third division, and although Breitenreiter departed the team “amicably,” he is unlikely to be the one to take them back to the Championship on their first try.

Rather, Huddersfield has already started the process of looking for a new manager, and the hunt will end this summer.

“I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with André over the past three months, and he departs with our best wishes. Meanwhile, our search process for a new head coach has advanced thanks to contingencies in place,” owner and chairman Kevin Nagle said in a statement.

The club’s best interests are always at the forefront of all decisions taken, and we look forward to moving forward with a new head coach who shares our values and vision. Our pre-season plans and goals for the upcoming season remain unchanged.

After coaching Hoffenheim, Zurich, Hannover, and Schalke in the past, Breitenreiter brought a wealth of expertise to West Yorkshire. However, when the relegation picture became clear at the John Smith’s Stadium last month, he made vague references to several major problems within the team.

Following the team’s tie with Birmingham, he remarked, “I cannot tell you about some of the unacceptable things that have happened here in the last two and a half months.” “Things that in my thirty years in the (football) business, I have not encountered.”
