Reports confirm the tragic death of 21-year-old Bryce Stanfield, a defensive tackle from Furman University. Stanfield passed away just two days after collapsing during a team workout. Furman president Elizabeth Davis conveyed that he died “surrounded by his family and his Furman family.” The incident occurred during a Wednesday morning workout, leading to Stanfield being urgently taken to a local hospital, where he was placed on life support.
Expressing deep sorrow, Furman coach Clay Hendrix stated that the program is devastated, urging everyone to offer prayers for Stanfield’s parents, Fred and Teri Stanfield, and their family. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 268 pounds, Stanfield was noted as a senior on the school’s website. Throughout his career, he accumulated 49 tackles and seven sacks, earning recognition as a two-time Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll selection.
Furman’s vice president for intercollegiate athletics, Jack Donnelly, remembered Stanfield as a “beautiful soul” and expressed that while he will be profoundly missed, his memory will endure in their hearts.
