Portsmouth set for huge boost as midfielder agrees two-year deal

The News reports that Portsmouth captain Marlon Pack has reached an agreement with the team for a new two-year contract.
Portsmouth is aiming for the Championship and has a big summer transfer window after winning promotion.
Pompey has already announced that it is saying goodbye to several important first-team players, but they have been in talks to keep club captain Marlon Pack.

However, it appears Portsmouth will soon receive a significant lift.
The News reports that after agreeing on a contract extension, Pompey and Pack have finished their talks. According to reports, the 33-year-old has reached an agreement to sign a new two-year contract at Fratton Park, which will keep him there through the summer of 2026.
Of course, official announcements are still pending, but John Mousinho and company will welcome this development.
It is also stated that Pack is thought of by the team as someone who could just move into a different position with them after his playing career ends. However, a new two-year contract indicates that day is not likely to arrive anytime soon.
An essential contract
Retaining Pack in the middle of the park will be extremely beneficial for Mousinho and his colleagues as he is among the most crucial players on the Portsmouth team.
Both on and off the field, the local midfielder is a leader who frequently gives his teammates commands. His level of experience has been crucial in League One, and it will be much more beneficial there given his 269 Championship matches.
However, he has been more than just a capable leader. In 38 third-tier games during their promotion-winning campaign, Pack recorded three goals and nine assists, demonstrating his true creative potential in his deep midfield spot.
His long, raking balls are essential for wearing down the opposition and will probably pose a threat as they go into the championship.
It is hoped that similar deals will follow the accord achieved over Pack’s deal.
Though negotiations over keeping Joe Morrell and Zak Swanson on new terms went on, options regarding their contracts were not activated. It is unclear if they will remain or go on, but they can both be very useful assets as they prepare to reenter the Championship.
Similar to Pack, Connor Ogilvie was presented with a new contract despite not having an option in his current one. We hope he remains on as well, as he is a vital player on the left side of defense.
With Portsmouth holding Pack down, fingers crossed that other deals won’t be too long off. This applies to prospective new hires as well as new contracts, as the summer is going to be quite busy.
