Paul George quickly made his mark in his preseason debut with the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite the team’s 121-111 defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night, George emerged as the top scorer of the game, tallying 23 points, six rebounds, two assists, and one steal. The veteran forward demonstrated his shooting prowess, hitting 53.3% of his shots from the field and 44.4% from three-point range in 26 minutes over three quarters of play.

After the game, George discussed his approach going into the matchup, highlighting his goal of establishing an early rhythm for the upcoming season. “I felt good,” he told Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “The main thing for me was to get my wind up and try to just find some rhythm.”

George emphasized the significance of playing with intensity, even during preseason games. “I got to be aggressive,” he reflected on his impressive performance. “Whether it’s preseason or not, I’m focused on building good habits. These guys need to get used to me, and I need to adjust to them as well.”

His dynamic playmaking and scoring showcased a smooth integration with his new teammates. George’s contributions on both ends of the court indicated that he is already finding his rhythm within the 76ers’ system, which is a promising development as the team gears up for the regular season.

Tyrese Maxey also stood out for the 76ers, adding 21 points, two assists, and one steal to the mix. He shot 50% from the field and an impressive 57.1% from beyond the arc, providing strong support for George’s scoring efforts.

George recognized the significance of team chemistry, emphasizing that each player must play authentically for the group to work well together. “I think I had to be myself,” George stated. “Everyone has to be themselves for this to work.”

Although the preseason loss to the Timberwolves wasn’t the perfect beginning for Philadelphia, George’s impressive performance suggested the potential impact he could have on the 76ers as the season progresses. His aggressive mindset and leadership on the court will be crucial as the team strives to foster cohesion and compete at a high level.
