Millwall concern over Premier League coup as Leeds United given £40m transfer update
The Championship starting lineup for 2024–2025 has been finalized following Leeds United’s loss to Southampton in the play-off final this past weekend.
The schedule still includes a visit to the historic Elland Road for supporters of QPR, Millwall, and Watford.
Alongside the Whites in your Tuesday Championship round-up are two of those London outfits.
Millwall transfer delay
According to a recent report, Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga may decide not to return to Millwall this summer in order to consider all of his options.
In his 18 Lions games toward the close of the previous year, the 25-year-old made an impression, bringing stability to the defense and scoring a few crucial goals. There was a general expectation that the midfielder, who was on the outskirts at Spurs, would return to Millwall this summer.
Though John Wenham, a Spurs expert, claims the two parties have agreed on a permanent transfer, Tanganga is reportedly taking his time to formalize the move. “I think Tanganga will hold out on the move,” he said to Tottenham News. His representative will inform other teams of the agreed-upon sum with Millwall to see if any other teams are interested in matching it.
Tanganga will be happy to hear that he has that choice there, but I expect this to take some time. I believe Millwall will also feel at ease. He performed admirably for them, and I have no doubt that they will allow him some time to reflect.”
Watford affirms appointments to the academy
Watford has announced a number of new coaching hires for the club’s academy, some of whom Hornets fans will recognize.
Club veteran Lloyd Doyley has revealed that he will return as under-18 assistant coach to work alongside new under-18 lead coach Matt Bevans, who most recently served as Watford FC Women’s temporary head coach, as the team gets ready for a new season.
Dan Gosling, a fellow first team member, has joined Charlie Daniels’ previous Bournemouth team as an assistant coach for the under-21 squad.
Leeds United placed a price tag on Summerville.
Leeds United may choose to take advantage of the rising Premier League interest in star player Crysencio Summerville this summer by setting a price tag for the forward.
The 22-year-old, who was voted Championship Player of the Season after tallying 19 goals and nine assists over an outstanding year, is reportedly asking between £35 and £40 million, according to Football Insider.
The publication claims that Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Premier League powerhouses Liverpool and Chelsea are interested in hiring him.
