‘Massive achievement’: Colchester United Women complete a glorious double
Winning the double in their debut campaign, according to COLCHESTER United Women head coach Simon King, is a “huge achievement.”
In addition to winning the Essex Women’s division two title the previous week, the U’s defeated Southminster United 6-0 to win the Essex Women’s League Cup.
Colchester, who founded last summer, have had an incredible season.
“I am incredibly pleased of each player’s devotion, tenacity, and spirit,” King declared.
“Together, we have successfully realized a vision today.
“Winning the double in our debut season is an incredible accomplishment.
“We look forward to the challenges ahead and aim to continue our adventure to greater heights next season.”
At the Len Salmon Stadium in Basildon, Colchester defeated Southminster handily to win the Essex Women’s League Cup.
Ruby Vinton (2), Ruby Greenleaf (2), Ella Cahill, and captain Cassie Craddock-Ball’s screamer clinched the victory for the U’s. Vinton was named player of the match.
In their final match at the MEL Group Stadium, Colchester Women defeated Sudbury Sports Women, the runners-up, 3-0, to secure the league title.
