Latest update on Bulldogs Kick Off NRL Match with All Abilities Curtain Raiser in Bundy.
The Bulldogs are set to make a spectacular arrival at Salter Oval in Bundaberg, partnering once more with Walk With Me 4 Autism All Abilities Rugby League Program for an inspiring curtain-raiser. This wonderful ceremony will take place before the Bulldogs face the Dolphins in Round 24 of the NRL Telstra Premiership.
Sonya Olsen and Judy Fenn, Bundaberg natives, founded the Walk With Me 4 Autism Rugby League Program to give an inclusive rugby league experience for children and people with special needs. This year, like in previous years, the program will once again display its exceptional participants on the main field prior to the NRL kickoff, giving a unique twist to the Bulldogs’ matchday.
Walk With Me 4. Sonya Olsen, the founder of the Autism All Abilities Rugby League Program, added: “The Bulldogs’ support has been outstanding year after year, culminating in this incredible chance for our players to participate in the curtain-raiser this weekend. This collaboration not only emphasizes the need of inclusivity in rugby league, but it also confirms that children and young adults of all abilities deserve to enjoy the benefits of team sports.
“Our original idea was to provide a secure location and opportunity for children of various abilities to come together, play on a football field, meet new friends, and experience the joy that rugby league gives. From a humble beginning, our All Abilities program has expanded to over 80 participants by 2024, with 55% identifying as having diverse abilities.
We are overjoyed that our players, some of whom had never played before joining our program, will now be able to go onto Salter Oval, share in the excitement of a Bulldogs home game, and experience the atmosphere of a Premiership match. We are profoundly appreciative for the Club’s continued support and belief in our program. While some participants have expressed nervousness, the majority are excited to take the field at Salter Oval in front of their home fans. The matches will take place on the main pitch between 1:00 and 2:10pm.
