LATEST: Boomer Esiason Says Bears GM Should Be Fired If He Doesn’t Draft Caleb Williams

The Chicago Bears, once again holding the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, face a critical decision: whether to choose a new franchise quarterback to replace Justin Fields or trade the pick for multiple assets to support Fields. USC’s Caleb Williams is the highly regarded prospect of the draft, but Fields’ notable progress last season adds complexity to the decision for Bears’ general manager Ryan Poles. Despite the debate, Boomer Esiason of CBS Sports asserts that selecting Williams should be a straightforward choice, stating that Poles should be fired if they don’t go that route. Poles, discussing the decision at the NFL scouting combine, emphasized his commitment to transparency with Fields in case the team opts to draft Williams. Fields, in his first three NFL seasons, has posted 40 touchdown passes, 30 interceptions, and a 10–28 record. On the other hand, Williams, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner, boasts impressive stats with 8,170 yards, 72 touchdown passes, and just 10 interceptions in the past two seasons. The 2023 NFL draft is set to kick off on April 25 in Detroit.
