Gary Rowett has already addressed becoming Birmingham City’s next manager

At least, it was the situation on the last day of the 2023–2024 season. Despite saving Blues from the threat of relegation to League One with an eight-game stint, Rowett was unable to keep the team from dropping out, managing only 11 out of 24 points.

Despite Blues’ 1-0 victory over Norwich City, their subsequent results doomed them to the English third tier, making the former permanent boss’ homecoming an enormous disappointment. Even though Rowett acknowledged that he wasn’t the right person to guide the team back to the Championship, he was still furious about the club’s relegation.

On May 4, Rowett remarked, “That was the circumstance initially, there was never anything else, it was can you come in for eight games and can you save us?” I’m not really sure why, it simply felt like the proper thing to do. It’s difficult, I believe, to sever the bond I had with the club when I first came here.

Rowett’s comeback was always, from the outside, a matter of why. Relegation on a resume is never good, even if it occurs for a brief period of time and involves a team the size of Birmingham. However, Rowett believed that if there was even a remote possibility of staying up, it was worth it to be the guy in the firing line.

We made an effort to get by, and Rowett stated, “I knew going in that there was a chance anything could fall on my shoulders.” “I accepted it because I wanted to support the team and do my part, even though I knew there was a good probability that after eight games I would be the one in this chair due to relegation. I’m quite bummed that it wasn’t sufficient.

Gary Rowett is unlikely to be offered the Birmingham City manager's job permanently.
It is improbable that Gary Rowett will receive a permanent opportunity to lead Birmingham City.

Following several months of unpaid medical leave, Mowbray has now officially announced that he is leaving Birmingham permanently. Naturally, there is much discussion about who will take over as manager. There have been references to Rowett, but the former Millwall manager never anticipated that his brief comeback would result in anything significant.

On May 4, Rowett reiterated, “As far as I’m concerned, it’s over for now.” “Of course, I will try to assist the club if they ask for my advice on certain matters. However, I’m sure they have enough experienced individuals on staff to consider their options for the future. There will undoubtedly be some time for introspection and stillness, followed, like most summers, by a period of activity.
