Full attendance, zero drama to begin 2024 Buffalo Bills mandatory minicamp

The Buffalo Bills’ required minicamp for the 2024 season has started, and since the team’s roster is set to go, there won’t be any drama surrounding attendance. The only one who doesn’t qualify is cornerback Christian Benford, who was granted a leave of absence due to a personal issue.

Sal Capaccio reported that cornerback Rasul Douglas was the lone player to skip organized team activities on purpose. It is encouraging to see full involvement instead of tense and dramatic news conferences.

Naturally, you will remember that the Bills were having odd and tersely worded press conferences at this time last year on wide receiver Stefon Diggs’ noteworthy absence from minicamp. On the second day of the minicamp last summer, things would start to calm down with Diggs back in the mix.

With Diggs now a Houston Texan and out of the Buffalo Bills’ contract, there’s plenty of opportunity for a number of lesser-known receivers to make an impression. No one in the receivers room has caught a pass from quarterback Josh Allen during the regular season, with the exception of wide receiver Khalil Shakir. It is undeniable that the group is at a crucial crossroads, Allen.

Based on first observations, it appears that all players donning Bills apparel have fully committed to the team and are prepared to compete. Building comradery and the crucial on-field team chemistry is the next stage.

The main takeaway from head coach Sean McDermott’s press conference on Tuesday was the word that linebacker Matt Milano will only practice with restricted reps. McDermott did, however, also provide a long list of players who will be sitting out minicamp.
