Former Sheffield Wednesday boss on brink of European qualification after horror start to the season

Xisco Munoz’s time at Sheffield Wednesday didn’t go as planned, but his season hasn’t been a write-off either. The Spaniard endured a difficult period with Wednesday after being brought in as Darren Moore’s replacement.

However, he lasted just a few months before parting ways with the club following the worst start to a season in its history.

After Munoz’s departure, Wednesday appointed Danny Röhl as his replacement. Röhl managed to lead the club to safety on the final day of the season, helping them finish 20th and maintain their spot in the Championship. Meanwhile, Munoz moved on to DAC Dunajská Streda in the Niké liga, Slovakia’s top-flight league.

Since joining DAC Dunajská Streda, Munoz has suffered defeat in just one league game. He has been instrumental in guiding them toward qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League. The team needs to beat fellow challengers Zilina to secure a top-three finish and ensure a spot in Europe next season. However, they will also be watching Spartak Trnava closely on the final day of the campaign. If Spartak Trnava loses, DAC Dunajská Streda will qualify for Europe regardless.

Munoz initially joined DAC Dunajská Streda until the end of the season when he signed his deal back in November. However, it was recently confirmed that he had signed a two-year contract until the end of the 2025/26 season, along with his assistant, and another former Owls staff member, Roberto Cuesta Roman.
