Former Premier League owner makes Birmingham City manager prediction
There will be a lot of people interested in Birmingham City’s open management position, according to former Premier League owner Simon Jordan.
Four different managers have taken the helm of the Blues over the turbulent season that they have been through. John Eustace was the driving force behind the West Midlands-based team’s finest start to a campaign in recent memory. Nevertheless, Wayne Rooney replaced him after a 3-1 victory against rival West Bromwich Albion in October, which propelled them into the play-off spots.
The former England international was, to put it frankly, a complete failure. In 15 games, he only managed two victories before being dropped as well.
Tony Mowbray, the former captain of Sunderland, was brought in to help the team, which was hovering just above the relegation zone. Before having to take a medical leave of absence, he accomplished exactly that, winning three and losing just two of his six league games in charge. Gary Rowett eventually made a comeback to the team, but this time he presided over their promotion to the third division after 29 years away.
This afternoon, Birmingham verified that Mowbray had notified them of his decision to step down. Consequently, the team will now search for a new manager to lead them into League One in the upcoming season.
There were rumors last week that club executives were courting former Hull City manager Liam Rosenior. He has many fans, including Sunderland, so there will be competition for his signature. Steve Bruce, meanwhile, might be interested in going back to St. Andrew’s.
Despite their recent relegation, talkSPORT expert Simon Jordan predicts that there will be a lot of interest in the role. The former owner of Crystal Palace stated via Birmingham Live:
“What you do off the field is irrelevant. You are responsible if you demote your team from the Championship to League One, even though you have the luxury of living in this realm of off-field affairs for a while.
“These folks have only wasted a whole year.” Don’t get me wrong, though; running a club in the first season is not easy. On the final day of the season, we avoided relegation after I took a similar action. However, I refrained from dismissing a manager who ranked sixth in the league.
“I do grow weary of listening to this debate about football style. Forget about the football style and leave League One.
“Many people will apply for the Birmingham position. Many individuals will view it as an opportunity. This large football team ought to have accomplished much more in its long history.
Other than Rosenior, the early favorites were Ian Evatt, Michael Skubala, Darren Ferguson, and Alex Neil.
Birmingham is a sizable team, so those searching for new employment may still find them appealing. Even though they will be competing in League One the next season, the chance to lead them back to the Championship at the first opportunity would look fantastic on anyone’s resume, even though there is a certain amount of risk involved.
Liam Rosenior reportedly has no interest in the position. This makes sense because he is still highly regarded and should be at the top of many Championship clubs’ lists. Ian Evatt, who just failed to get past the Bolton Wanderers play-offs, would be a good candidate.
