A former Birmingham City player is now in search of a new club after being released by a League Two side.

Omar Bogle, the former Birmingham City striker, has become a free agent following his release from Newport County. The 30-year-old’s two-season spell with Newport has come to an end, with the club opting not to renew his contract. Bogle made 32 appearances in all competitions for Newport this season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists. During his time at the Welsh club, he scored a total of 27 goals in 86 games, as Newport finished 15th and 18th in the respective seasons.

In a statement addressed to Bogle and the other seven departing players, Newport County said, “The club would like to thank all departing players for their service and commitment to the club and wish them well for the future.”

Bogle, who was born in Birmingham, joined Blues on a season-long loan in August 2018 when Garry Monk was in charge. He made 16 appearances for Birmingham City, scoring one league goal. However, he faced tough competition for a starting spot, battling with Lukas Jutkiewicz and Che Adams. His loan spell was cut short after six months, and he spent the remainder of the season at Portsmouth, where he scored four goals in 14 appearances.

Since leaving Newport, Bogle has had stints at clubs including ADO Den Haag, Charlton Athletic, Doncaster Rovers, and Hartlepool United.

Bogle was most prolific during his time at Grimsby Town and Solihull Moors, scoring 62 goals in the National League North for the Moors, and then 32 goals in 68 games in the National League and League Two with the Mariners.

Bogle has played at the Eredivisie level, having worked under former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew, as well as in the Championship with Cardiff City, Wigan Athletic, and Birmingham City.
