Carlos Corberan may call off the Birmingham, West Brom post-relegation agreement.

Birmingham City’s 13-year Championship tenure came to an end on Saturday when, despite their 1-0 victory over Norwich City, they were relegated due to other circumstances.

They may, however, have a chance to complete a loan agreement for promising goalkeeper Josh Griffiths with West Brom as a result of their drop to the third division of English football.

This would bring to mind their brilliant one-year loan acquisition of Baggies keeper Boaz Myhill, which they made in 2011, the year they were relegated from the Premier League.

Boaz Myhill wonder-signing

On July 30, 2010, Myhill, who had been a staple in a Hull City team since the late 2000s, reportedly moved to West Brom for £1.5 million.

Regretfully, he only made 13 appearances in his debut season before moving from the Hawthorns to St Andrew’s in the summer.

Myhill would go on to have a significant impact on Birmingham’s season, leading them to a respectable fourth-place result in their first year back in the Championship. In addition, he had the one and only opportunity of his career to play in a European football match when the Blues took on teams like Club Brugge and Braga.

They were eliminated from the Europa League as well as the playoffs, and Myhill’s injury kept him out of the Championship semifinal matchup against Blackpool.

He spent the majority of his career as a backup keeper after returning to West Brom. However, Myhill’s contribution to the Blues’ best result in the previous 12 years will live on in the memories of the team’s supporters.

Birmingham should try and repeat the deal

Josh Griffiths, 22, is another man who will probably play second fiddle again this season. Having been a member of West Brom since he was ten years old, Griffiths is not going to have a chance anytime soon because Alex Palmer is keeping his backup off the field.

Birmingham might have a great opportunity here, and it wouldn’t be shocking if the Englishman ended up being the current promotion favorite.

Another important factor is his League One experience, having played in the level for Lincoln and Portsmouth more than 50 times. His brief stint with Pompey was especially noteworthy since he played in 22 games with seven clean sheets and shown a great passing out of the back game.

As John Ruddy’s contract expires next month, some supporters will be requesting a goalkeeper replacement. You can count on Griffiths to provide you reliable performances the following year if you need a temporary solution.

Carlos Corberan may have other ideas

Carlos Corberan West Brom

However, Carlos Corberan, the current head coach of the Baggies, might have different ideas about Griffiths. The Spaniard gave the keeper a chance toward the conclusion of the previous season after recalling him from his loan at Fratton Park; the keeper appeared in ten Championship games.

Even though Griffiths hasn’t played much in this campaign, Corberan obviously still has ideas for him.

Regarding the child’s development, the head coach recently said in an interview with Birmingham Live, “We assume in football you only progress with playing time, but in your career, that’s not the only way you have to improve.”

There’s no denying Corberan’s distinct management style, and the fact that West Brom is in the league may influence his choices in the upcoming year.

In an effort to further his development, Griffiths might go out on loan to Birmingham if the Baggies win promotion through the play-offs. But the Hereford-born goalie might face a repeat season in championship football, and he would have to keep up the struggle against Alex Palmer’s superiority.
