Brighton & Hove Albion boss comments on Sheffield Wednesday target ahead of key decision

James Beadle, a target for Sheffield Wednesday, might be a key player in Brighton & Hove Albion’s preseason this summer.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper had a fantastic season in 2023–2024, spending the first part of the season on loan at League One’s Oxford United before moving up a division to play for the Owls. According to earlier reports from The Star, Wednesday is keen to try and get him back for the upcoming season.

Whether that occurs or not is still up in the air, and a big portion of the decision rests with Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, who will be spending the summer having a close-up look at the England youth international.

Three years older than Beadle, Carl Rushworth put in a number of solid performances in goal for Swansea City on a loan of his own this past season, giving the Seagulls some fascinating possibilities in goalkeeping right now. Given that Bart Verbruggen and Tom McGill will be abroad with their respective national teams, it looks like they will both play in the preseason.

He informed the reporters that “Beadle and Rushworth are both very good goalkeepers.” “Given that Bart will play in Europe and Tom will play in the Copa America with Canada, perhaps we start with both in the preseason. I’ll have plenty of time to evaluate them both.

The outcome of that analysis will determine Beadle’s future and potential destination, so the Owls may need to wait to pursue the goalkeeper until De Zerbi has made up his mind on that front.
