Breaking News: Brent Venables shared major new updates regarding Oklahoma wide receiver Deion Burks.
In addition to suffering a new injury in Saturday’s game against Missouri, Oklahoma wide receiver Deion Burks also received devastating news that his parents’ home had burned down.
After sitting out the previous five games due to injury, Burks was reportedly hurt again during the game in Missouri.
Head coach Brent Venables shared that Burks was injured on a hard hit late in Oklahoma’s 30-23 loss in Columbia. On a 5-yard catch, he was sandwiched between two defenders with only 19 seconds remaining and is reportedly undergoing evaluation for a concussion.

“We’ll see about Deion,” Venables said on his postgame show, *Sooner Football With Brent Venables,* which was recorded just minutes after the game in Columbia and aired Sunday night. “He took a big hit.”
Now I know I’m not a rules expert but even the guys in the booth thought it should be looked at. How was there not even a consideration? Hope Deion Burks is okay. pic.twitter.com/iY6uUbrufs

Then, Venables shared the most heartbreaking news. “Found out his parents’ home burned down tonight as well,” Venables said. “It’s just real tragic. Our prayers are with him and his family.”
Burks shared a photo on his Instagram story showing a burned-out house.
This season, Burks ranks second on the team with 31 catches in five games, leads the Sooners with three touchdown receptions, and is third in receiving yards with 245. He missed the last five games due to what Venables described as a “soft tissue” injury.
After transferring to Oklahoma from Purdue, Burks quickly made an impact, shining in the Oklahoma Red/White Game with five receptions for 166 yards and two long touchdown catches. Before the season, Burks signed an NIL deal with Rob’s Ranch, a local men’s rehabilitation organization, pledging to donate $50 for each catch he makes this season—a commitment that has been matched by dozens of local businesses.
