Arsenal announce Arthur Okonkwo contract decision as Wrexham hope for summer transfer

Phil Parkinson plans to bring in new players in the upcoming days, weeks, and months as Wrexham gears up for life in League One.

With Wrexham’s elevation to League One, a few positions at the STōK Cae Ras require some attention.

Given that Ben Tozer, Aaron Hayden, and Jordan Tunnicliffe left the team this summer, Wrexham will undoubtedly require two, if not three, center backs this summer.

After starting the previous season with loanee Arthur Okonkwo in goal, Phil Parkinson will also need to bring in a goalkeeper.

With Ben Foster’s retirement, the Arsenal prospect rose to the situation and was simply amazing in goal for Wrexham.

While winning the hearts of the Wrexham supporters, Okonkwo earned a position on the League Two Team of the Season.

Fans of Wrexham would want to see Okonkwo rejoin the team permanently this summer, but given his incredible performances, Wrexham would have to contend with some tough competition.

Arsenal confirm Arthur Okonkwo decision

Okonkwo’s contract at Arsenal expires this summer, and it seemed inevitable that the Gunners would let him go.

The 22-year-old deserves to be playing football with the first team, and Arsenal isn’t going to give him the opportunity.

Although Okonkwo has already stated that he will be leaving this summer, he hasn’t really thought through where he would go next.

That eliminates any possibility that Okonkwo will reconsider his decision to leave Arsenal.

Today, Arsenal revealed its retained list, and the Gunners verified Okonkwo’s departure from the team.

Despite his performances for Wrexham, Mikel Arteta’s team has not changed their attitude on Okonkwo’s future, and he is among several players departing Arsenal this summer.

With Wrexham undoubtedly hoping that he enjoyed his stay at the STōK Cae Ras so much that he returns for more, the fight for Okonkwo can now officially begin.

Wrexham must consider their goalkeeping objectives.

For supporters of Wrexham, Okonkwo returning is the ideal scenario.

In case anyone was wondering how highly Wrexham think of Okonkwo, Rob McElhenney has even compared him to Michael Jordan.

Wrexham must have other goals in mind, too, as Okonkwo’s performance this past season undoubtedly impressed Premier League and Championship clubs.

Luke McNicholas has some promise, and Mark Howard seems to be sticking around, but Wrexham will need a quality stopper.

Wrexham may target another promising player similar to Okonkwo in an effort to secure the goalkeeping positions for an extended period of time.

Parkinson might also try to bring in a dependable League One goalie to provide a steady presence in the back.

When it comes to potential replacements for the outgoing Arsenal player, Okonkwo is one player Wrexham cannot afford to put all of its eggs in one basket.
