An assist from a former Reading FC player sees Sparta Rotterdam pass Fortuna Sittard in the top eight chase.
Sparta Rotterdam secured a much-needed victory in the Eredivisie with a convincing 4-0 win over Fortuna Sittard. Pelle Clement, the former Reading FC and Ajax midfielder, played a pivotal role by providing his second assist of the season, setting up Arno Verschueren for the opening goal. Verschueren, the Belgian midfielder, has been in fine form this season, contributing eight goals so far.
Despite Fortuna Sittard still being in contention at 1-0 going into halftime, Sparta Rotterdam asserted their dominance in the second half. Tobias Lauritsen, the Norwegian forward, scored twice, in the 55th and 88th minutes respectively, further extending Sparta’s lead. Lauritsen’s impressive performance adds to his tally of nine goals and seven assists for the season. His potential departure in the summer, with interest from Hellas Verona during the January transfer window, highlights his value to the team.
The final goal came in added time, with Camiel Neghli finding the back of the net for his third goal of the season, sealing the comprehensive 4-0 victory for Sparta Rotterdam. Both teams are currently level on points and are just outside the top eight in the league standings. This crucial win could provide a momentum boost for Sparta Rotterdam as they aim to climb higher in the table in the remaining matches of the season.
