Sheffield United boss responds to Luton fan jeers for injured Rhys Norrington-Davies amid Tom Lockyer point

Sheffield United faced a setback during their recent victory at Luton Town as defender Rhys Norrington-Davies suffered another injury blow, this time damaging his hamstring just moments into the game. Norrington-Davies, who had only returned to action six weeks ago after a lengthy absence due to a serious hamstring injury, appeared distraught as he was led off the pitch for further assessment.

The incident drew some negative reactions from sections of the Kenilworth Road support, stemming from a past interview Norrington-Davies gave after joining Stoke following the termination of his loan spell at Luton in 2021. Despite the unsavory response from some fans, manager Wilder emphasized that Norrington-Davies’ situation should not be compared to the recent health scare experienced by fellow Welsh international Tom Lockyer, who suffered a cardiac arrest in December.

Wilder highlighted Norrington-Davies’ resilience in overcoming a potentially career-ending injury and expressed hope for the defender’s recovery. However, the injury further compounds Sheffield United’s woes, with Ben Brereton Diaz and Oli McBurnie also sidelined due to hamstring and calf issues, respectively. Wilder acknowledged the absence of key players like Brereton Diaz and McBurnie, emphasizing their importance to the team and the ongoing challenges faced by the club in their absence.
