Texas RBs coach Tashard Choice deflects praise for earning Rivals Big 12 Recruiter of the Year recognition

Texas Longhorns running backs coach Tashard Choice, recognized as one of the standout talents on Steve Sarkisian’s coaching staff, received the Rivals Big 12 Recruiter of the Year award for successfully securing two consensus four-star running backs in the 2024 class.

Despite the impressive in-state running back class, Choice expanded his recruiting efforts beyond Texas, targeting Jerrick Gibson from Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy and Christian Clark from Phoenix (Ariz.) Mountain Pointe. Both players committed to Texas during the summer, showcasing Choice’s reputation as one of the top recruiters in the country.

Gibson, a 5’10, 215-pound running back, chose Texas over numerous offers, including those from Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. Clark committed shortly after Gibson, turning down offers from schools like Alabama, Auburn, and USC. Sarkisian praised Gibson’s running ability and Clark’s resemblance to star player Bijan Robinson.

These additions bolster Texas’ already formidable running back group, featuring CJ Baxter, Jaydon Blue, Savion Red, and Tre Wisner. Choice’s recruiting success extends beyond running backs, as he was also involved in securing wide receiver Ryan Wingo and is the primary recruiter for 2025 tight end commit Emaree Winston and 2026 running back commit Raycine Guillory Jr.

As Texas transitions to the SEC, Choice’s expertise in recruiting from the Southeast, particularly in Florida and Georgia, will become increasingly crucial for the Longhorns.
